"The Future of Healthcare in Greece" Conference is the biggest annual event on healthcare policy in Greece.
This year emphasis is placed on healthcare initiatives in the EU that create opportunities for supranational cooperation and cross-sector partnering. Collaborative efforts on Access to Medicines are facilitated by the Valletta and BeNeLuxa declarations that aim to balance the system’s financial sustainability with the rapid increase of demand in the provision of preventive and curative services. The prospect for a healthy life is closely linked to the socio-economic conditions. As resilient and empowered communities tend to better respond to change, the perceived winds of change in the Health sector, demand for informed decisions by all. Based on the initiative undertaken by the European Commission that provides policy makers with factual, comparative data and insights into health and health systems in EU countries, we will attempt a political diagnosis of the greater strengths and challenges on a European level.
Moving forward, focus will shift on new ways of investment for innovative forms of healthcare as well as on effective financial instruments to support reforms in European health systems. Investments in health have traditionally focused on infrastructure and medical equipment. But today health systems need to transition to new and more integrated care models – this requires substantial wide scope and sustained investment. The challenge is to access and blend financing components from different sources in a strategic way. The public and private sectors should collaborate to co-invest and co-deliver transformed health services
