Health on a wire: Balancing priorities

“The Future of Healthcare in Greece” Conference is the biggest annual event on healthcare policy in Greece. For seven consecutive years, It features world class international speakers, representatives of the most important international organizations, renowned academics and leading political and healthcare stakeholders in a public dialogue regarding the major healthcare issues and suggested ways to reform the healthcare system in order to respond to the rapid increase of demand for public healthcare services in a financial sustainable way.

This year, the agenda will focus on the challenges of the European healthcare systems that deal with an ageing population, the growing burden of chronic diseases and declining budgets and the particular problems of the Greek healthcare system, caused by a seven year unprecedented depression, fiscal consolidations and the growing unsolved problem of migration flows. The growth perspectives of the healthcare sector and the policies that support the extroversion and innovation initiatives of the Industry will also be highlighted during the Conference.

Carmen Paun, a health policy reporter of POLITICO EU Edition will present during the Conference the key outcomes of a recent working group she coordinated on how Europe should approach the use of technology and big data to improve healthcare. Francesca Colombo Francesca Colombo, M.Sc., is Head of the Health Division at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. She is responsible for work on health, which aims at providing internationally comparable data on health systems and applying economic analysis to health policies, advising policy makers, stakeholders and citizens on how to respond to demands for more and better health care.
Sylvain Giraud Mr Sylvain Giraud is Head of Unit “health systems” in the Directorate General Health and Food Safety in the European Commission since 1st February 2016.
Juan Fuertes Juan Fuertes is the Advocacy and Access Manager of PHA Europe, the umbrella organization for pulmonary hypertension patients' organization. He is also a Board Member of the European Patients' Forum and Council Member of the European Lung Foundation.
Carmen Paun Carmen Paun is a health care reporter for POLITICO, based in Brussels. Before joining POLITICO, she was a freelancer covering regulatory and international affairs out of the EU capital.
